Easier deployment of tags

Confidex personalization services are designed to lower the barrier for RFID adoption and to facilitate the easy usage of RFID. Magnetic holder, pre-encoding, barcode printing, logo printing and laser engraving are just some of the ways Confidex can personalize tags. The portfolio of personalization services is being constantly expanded.  Personalization is a way to configure the final product, which  makes life easier for the customer.

RFID systems are quite often supposed to make daily routines easier and faster by automating identification and decision-making. In these cases, when daily savings and initial investments are known, the return of investment is easy to calculate. Simple, isn’t it? However, there are some pitfalls in estimating these costs and savings.

Total cost of ownership

Due the large number of identified objects, the cost of tags is often significant portion of investment. TCO (Total Cost of Ownership) of tags is, however, different than the pure purchase price of tags. Tag installation costs and maintenance costs during asset lifetime should be considered. Although these might seem irrelevant, the cumulative amount of time wasted can be significant due the large amount of tags.

Rugged design of Confidex tags maximizes the duty time of tags without need for replacements. With pre-encoding, provided by Confidex, the tags are ready for use directly from the box. Installation gets faster and a encoding device is not needed at the place of affixing.

Confidex tags are also designed to support several different fixing methods. On top of this, the special fixings accessories are provided. Fixing accessories minimizes the installation time and ensures firm attachment. One notable issue is the effect of the fixing method on RF performance. RFID tags have antenna, which can be disturbed by nearby material. Fixing methods and accessories recommend and provided by Confidex will not compromise a tags performance.

Smoother transition into the implementation

It’s also challenging to make reliable estimation on savings (time and cost) without testing the technology in a real environment. Trial, pilot and limited implementation are essential steps for any RFID project.

Confidex’s personalization service makes it possible to have a barcode and human readable number printed on top the RFID tag. This enables the parallel use of two different identification systems. This is required in many cases to be able to do pilots and limited implementations. Investments in new reader devices can be done in steps, while existing barcode readers remain usable elsewhere in the chain.
